OLIO is a free app tackling the enormous problem of food waste by connecting neighbours with each other, and with local shops & cafes, so that surplus food can be shared, not thrown away.

Users simply snap a photo of their unwanted food and add it to the app; neighbours then receive alerts and can request whatever takes their fancy, with pickup taking place – often the same day – at the home or a public location.

OLIO is the world’s only neighbour to neighbour food sharing app, and has demonstrated the power of innovation, technology and community to solve the problem of food waste.

Since launching in January 2016, OLIO have enjoyed some incredible achievements including:

  • Signing up 330,000 users
  • Recruiting over 15,000 volunteers
  • Partnering with some of the UK’s leading retailers to enable them to have zero food waste stores with help from ‘Food Waste Heroes’ (local volunteers)
